OOM: Poking around

Ako has one of the medicinal smelling bullets out of the clip again and is looking at it closely while she sits at a table.

There has to be some way to figure out what the pistol is supposed to do without shooting anyone or anything.

"Codes?"

The sprite is now definitely intrigued! Matter-folk don't usually make physical objects that way.

Ako pops out one of her presents and flips the tag around so that the code on the To/From tag is visible.

"Apparently feeding that through the machines the right way will make sandals."

Enzo peers at it, perplexed. "That's not any language I know."

It must be just the input parameter, obviously. It's way too short for anything else.

Well it won't do pumpkins.

"I didn't really expect you too," says Ako as she tears the paper off before storing the sandals to prevent double wrapping, "But I figure it's worth taking a look to see if there's an entry in the book that matches the pistol, or the ammo. Maybe both together."

[a1enzo]

"Sounds good to me."

[seat_five_girl]

"Want to come with me? Since it's basically a room full of industrial tools I don't know how to work and all."

[a1enzo]

Enzo brightens.

"You kidding? That's the kind of thing I used to do for fun!"

[seat_five_girl]

"And now you do it for work," she says instead of wincing, because friends with less dangerous hobbies. She should get on that.

"Anyway, I figured having someone along wouldn't hurt in case something starts up on me or otherwise went weird."

[a1enzo]

"Mmm, less of the exploring. Unless we're exploring for, you know, lurking danger. But, sure, if you need a bodyguard, I'm your sprite!"

[seat_five_girl]

"Thanks Enzo-san. When would be good for you?"

[a1enzo]

He considers. "Not the kind of thing I'd need a sword for, I think, so... I'm free now, if you want."

His little forcefield unit, he has. He wears it most of the time, these days. It is small and doesn't get in the way, so there's no real reason not to.

"Works for me!"

Ako being, so long as she has the ribbon of her Sylladex on her wrist, as well equipped as she ever is. Give or take a few things in her room that are too large to store it hold basically everything she owns anyway.

Off they go, then!

"Is the part of the forge we're going as hot as the rest of it? I might want to bring something cold to drink if it is."

[seat_five_girl]

"Not that I noticed last time? We can swing by Bar-san for something just in case though."

[a1enzo]

"Probably a good idea."

[seat_five_girl]

It puts a bit of extra curve on their walk to the door, but it's not like any part of the bar is hard to get to.

Once Enzo has his refreshment and they're on their way again, "So, I'm thinking a quick check to make sure nothing is running, and then see if I can turn anything up in the book?"

[a1enzo]

"You got it, boss."

[seat_five_girl]

"I'm not sure how I feel about that," says Ako. Lightly teased seems best.

Which takes most of time remaining to go to the forge extension.

"Looks clear to me."

[a1enzo]

"Hey, bodyguard first, if you don't mind..."

He approaches the machine. "Looks like something from my dad's lab."

Ako might, possibly, be rolling her eyes at the bodyguard line.

"Well, there's only so many ways to build big machinery?" she ventures, "Anyway, that console at the center is where Karkat-san was controlling everything..."

Not that there is an abundance of other controls to mess with, but details.

She's lucky he didn't put his shades on.

Enzo nods and approaches the console, ears alert for the humming of machinery and eyes for indicator lights or other signs of activity.

[seat_five_girl]

Sunglasses, at least, would provide some eye and flash protection. Not that any is needed for that at the moment. The indicator lights glow softly, but that's about as far as the indications of active power go.

"Can I come in yet bodyguard-san?"

[a1enzo]

Fortunately, if it comes to that, sprites can don/change clothing very quickly.

"It looks okay. There's power, but nothing seems active. I think you're clear."

[seat_five_girl]

Ako comes over to the controls and does her best to center herself in front of them.

"Karkat-san was here and his hands were about here..."

The display comes on as Ako nudges a dial.

"That's not a book."

"Huh. What's it showing us a cube primitive for?"
