OOM: Poking around

Ako has one of the medicinal smelling bullets out of the clip again and is looking at it closely while she sits at a table.

There has to be some way to figure out what the pistol is supposed to do without shooting anyone or anything.

"Huh. Want me to have a look at it?"

He knows his weaponry pretty well.

"Go ahead."

It's a pistol, but pretty custom.

Enzo picks it up and gives it a thorough inspection, carefully disassembling and reassembling it.

"Well, the casing's kinda weird, and it sure won't take any ammo I'm familiar with, but the mechanism seems normal. I mean, I know sprite guns better, but..." He shrugs.

[seat_five_girl]

"Yeah, and the bullets," she hands over one of the clips, "Smell kind of like medicine, so it might be healing related. But Karkat-san is a troll, and this is a gun, so testing is awkward."

[a1enzo]

"Yeah, and it does have a red cross on it." That's a medical symbol in his world as well. "But you're right, who's gonna want to test it by being shot? You'd have to test the bullets themselves..."

[seat_five_girl]

"Or look at how it was made," counter Ako, "And I think I know what they used, but it's basically heavy equipment I've never handled myself..."

Feel like tagging along on some mild exploring Enzo?

"Oh, yeah?"

Perhaps. Do tell.

[seat_five_girl]

"I saw Karkat-san make the present for the year before," she explains, "I was half asleep, but it was in the extension off of the forge out back. I think the trolls make just about everything the same way and they had a big book of codes that describe the different things..."

[a1enzo]

"Codes?"

The sprite is now definitely intrigued! Matter-folk don't usually make physical objects that way.

Ako pops out one of her presents and flips the tag around so that the code on the To/From tag is visible.

"Apparently feeding that through the machines the right way will make sandals."

[a1enzo]

Enzo peers at it, perplexed. "That's not any language I know."

It must be just the input parameter, obviously. It's way too short for anything else.

[seat_five_girl]

Well it won't do pumpkins.

"I didn't really expect you too," says Ako as she tears the paper off before storing the sandals to prevent double wrapping, "But I figure it's worth taking a look to see if there's an entry in the book that matches the pistol, or the ammo. Maybe both together."

[a1enzo]

"Sounds good to me."

[seat_five_girl]

"Want to come with me? Since it's basically a room full of industrial tools I don't know how to work and all."

[a1enzo]

Enzo brightens.

"You kidding? That's the kind of thing I used to do for fun!"

[seat_five_girl]

"And now you do it for work," she says instead of wincing, because friends with less dangerous hobbies. She should get on that.

"Anyway, I figured having someone along wouldn't hurt in case something starts up on me or otherwise went weird."

[a1enzo]

"Mmm, less of the exploring. Unless we're exploring for, you know, lurking danger. But, sure, if you need a bodyguard, I'm your sprite!"

[seat_five_girl]

"Thanks Enzo-san. When would be good for you?"

[a1enzo]

He considers. "Not the kind of thing I'd need a sword for, I think, so... I'm free now, if you want."

His little forcefield unit, he has. He wears it most of the time, these days. It is small and doesn't get in the way, so there's no real reason not to.

[seat_five_girl]

"Works for me!"

Ako being, so long as she has the ribbon of her Sylladex on her wrist, as well equipped as she ever is. Give or take a few things in her room that are too large to store it hold basically everything she owns anyway.

Off they go, then!

"Is the part of the forge we're going as hot as the rest of it? I might want to bring something cold to drink if it is."

[seat_five_girl]

"Not that I noticed last time? We can swing by Bar-san for something just in case though."

[a1enzo]

"Probably a good idea."

[seat_five_girl]

It puts a bit of extra curve on their walk to the door, but it's not like any part of the bar is hard to get to.

Once Enzo has his refreshment and they're on their way again, "So, I'm thinking a quick check to make sure nothing is running, and then see if I can turn anything up in the book?"
